At BHCCU, we take our community involvement very seriously. We are fully dedicated to making our community a better place to live and we fully embrace being a proactive community owned financial institution. 100% of our profits serve our customers and community. As of today, your Credit Union employs 20 staff that are dedicated to providing excellent service and products to our 8,000 customers.
We are a member of the Customer Owned Banking Association (COBA). We’re regulated in the same way as the major banks and our customer deposits are covered by the Government Guarantee. We are part of the largest ATM network in Australia.
A Credit Union is a Financial Institution owned by, and run for the benefit of, its customers. In a Credit Union people with a common connection, (Community), join together and organise their financial affairs as a group. This enables them to gain advantages, and access services, as part of the group, that they would not be able to enjoy as individuals. Our customers elect a Board of Directors from the main body of customers to oversee the running of the Credit Union, and they put the necessary structures in place to deliver the required services. The main services of all Credit Unions are the provision of savings and loans and by doing this with our own “pool” of funds this can be done in a very efficient way, giving great value to customers. We also offer other products such as Insurance and Financial Planning. Credit Unions operate to a very high set of ethical principles which require that all customers are treated with respect and dignity, no matter how much, or little they have saved or borrowed.
